Aurora Ljungstedt grew up among the upper classes and married an office head in the prison service. Prior to her debut in 1853 with her horror story Hin Ondes hus, she wrote for the newspaper Aftonbladet, among others, under the pseudonym Richard and later Claude Gérard.
She was one of the first authors to write detective stories in Swedish, and she used the genre to boldly examine the theme of urge and desire, not without a certain ironic attitude towards the typical perception of women at that time. Her best known stories are collected in Dagdrifverier och drömmerier. En Jägares historia, 1872, and Onkel Benjamins album, 1872.
