Eva Sylvia Waldemarsson

1903 - 1986

Sweden

Eva Sylvia Waldemarsson was born into the family of a wholesaler in Rinkaby in Kristianstad district. After commercial training, she travelled to Europe and Africa, but returned later to Kristianstad, where she worked as an office assistant.

With Himlavargen, 1959, the first of many historical novels, she won a competition for the best novel in Scania. She wrote in dialect and was likened to Sara Lidman. Himlaland (N), 1961, and Madonneleken (N), 1967, were particularly popular with readers and critics in the 1960s. In 1982 she published her novel Stadsrådinnan, a portrait of a woman from Stockholm at the turn of the century, and in 1984 Min far sköt en stork (N), in which she returns to the milieu of northern Scania.
